| | What did you like most about this course and professor? |
| 00 | Its
extremely useful if you're interested in getting started with web
development. The teacher is attentive and willing to help anytime you
ask. |
| 01 | The examples done in class. |
| 04 | Some
people might dislike Dr. Butler, but I thought he was very patient with
the class and was a very enjoyable lecturer. He always took time to
address issues and taught well considering the wide range of student's
abilities. |
| 05 | gaining useful web design skills |
| 07 | I liked the comprehensive view of web design, from coding to color theory to usability studies to usage statistics. |
| 08 | he was very very nice and helpful |
| 09 | I liked the homework assignments. They were very informative. |
| 12 | The course is informational and the professor is very willing to help students. |
| 14 | Prof Butler was a very kind, caring teacher. He paid attention to his students, and he cared about their concerns. |
| 15 | I'm
glad that I was able to learn something useful that I believe I can
apply to the real world. Professor Butler made an effort to make sure
that we learned the material in a very practicle sense. |
| 16 | Didn't really like much about the course |
| 20 | You are a very personable and understanding teacher. It was a pleasure to be in your class. |
| | How could this course and professor improve? |
| 00 | Should be held mostly in the computer lab so as to try out the different tools we discuss. |
| 01 | More html and css examples in class. More computer lab time in class. |
| 05 | more handson-type lectures, less powerpoint, more demonstrations |
| 07 | This
class needs time in the computer lab. I learned much much faster and
better when I was able to try the material out on a computer. |
| 08 | the
labs took way too much time- it is too much work on top of the overall
website project. also- the grades on the labs are completely arbitrary-
i got points taken off with no explanation. there was no rheberic for
the grades. there is no reason for the loss of points or at least i
dont understand why i lost them. |
| 09 | Don't
tell students to 'look it up'. We pay to be taught by a teacher. Teach
more on Frontpage etc. because that is what companies would require us
to know in reality. |
| 14 | The
class could use a little more organization in its lectures. Certain
definitions and concepts could be stated and written out more clearly. |
| 16 | The
class needs to be in a lab setting rather than being taught in a
powerpoint format. Writing code in exams is a terrible idea. No one in
the real world writes even a line of code without compiling and seeing
the effect of that line, let alone write code for a whole page. This
has to be a computer exercise, not a memory test! |
| 18 | Hold the class entirely in the computer lab to make it "hands on". This class should not be held in a lecture room. |
| | What would you tell another student who asked you to describe this course? |
| 00 | Same as above. Useful if you want to begin learning web development. |
| 01 | It's a fairly useful class. |
| 05 | this is definitely not a blow-off course. you have to put a lot of time in outside of class, but you learn a lot. |
| 07 | The
information is very useful. If you do the labs and a little outside
research, you will come out of it knowing how to build a website. |
| 08 | its a lot of work/time |
| 09 | Lots of html and you never really get the point of making a good looking site. |
| 14 | Very educational and fun. |
| 16 | Too much work for a 100 level class, bad lecture setting. Scares you away from taking further CS classes. |
| 18 | The
instructor is boring, and the lecture does not teach anything. You are
forced to go home after every lecture and teach everything to yourself. |
| | Was the text useful? Was it understandable? Why or why not? |
| 00 | No textbook. Just powerpoint slides. Somewhat bare bones. Could use a little improvement to make them more engaging |
| 01 | No text. |
| 07 | N/A |
| 12 | n/a |
| 14 | no text |
| | Were the assigned homework or problem sets helpful and relevant to the course? Why or why not? |
| 00 | Very
helpful since they taught you how to use the different tools such as
email forms, style sheets, and photoshop, all key tools in making a
functioning website. |
| 01 | Yes. You get to learn how to make actual websites for the assignments. |
| 05 | yes. it would help if we had time as a class to work through them, like a set lab time. |
| 07 | Yes. They helped me improve my understanding of the concepts taught in lecture. |
| 08 | some were more relevant and helpful than others |
| 09 | yes |
| 12 | The work was very relevant to the course and helps with the comprehension of the concepts. |
| 14 | Very useful. I liked the handon part of the class. |
| 16 | The TAs were again overly hard on grading. They should not scare away intro students! |
| | Please use this space to comment on any other aspect of the course. (i.e., help sessions, teaching assistants, etc.) |
| 08 | it is more helpful to have the class in the computer lab so we can do the exercises along with the professor |
| 13 | This
is suppossed to be a 100 level course and it was way more difficult and
time consuming than my 400 level courses. That should never happen. Web
Development is about learning not about consuming all your time doing
labs and project. And the tests, it is extremely unreasonable to have
us code a whole page for a test. Maybe have snippets of different
things that we should code but not a whole page. You have unreasonable
expectations and you really need to reevaluate the course. |
