What did you like most about this course and professor?
00 Professor Butler was very excited about material and demonstrated expertise
01 very hands-on; it is helpful for learning material
09 Learning how to create a web page is very useful in the real world
10 Getting to do actual page jobs. Competition between other groups.
11 Professor was awesome to work with
12 His availability outside of class to help students with labs and projects.
13 The professor is really nice and I really enjoyed making webpages and seeing things come to life
14 enthusiasm and concern for the students
16 prof butler was a very good teacher - genuinely cared about students. made sure to go slow enough for everyone but not too slow
18 I liked that we actually moved to another room so we could be in front of computers while the lectures were going on so we could follow along with the procedures
20 He was always kind, and always excited, and willing to help students
How could this course and professor improve?
00 The project was too much for an intro level course, and the exams were too long
  01 more interaction in lectures
09 Don't give 2 big projects at the same time with 2 different groups. It was hard to organize meeting times and as a result the finished product is not as good as it could have been were there only 1 project
10 The material was to elementrary. Make a course for people with a basic understanding of html, but want to learn how to develop well. More focus on appropriate design and design failures, instead of tags. Have it be about what is developed more than how it is developed.
11 Realize that many people signing up for this course don't expect to actually have to write html code on a test. I think it would be better if the course grade was determined from just the web design project and labs
13 The lectures were a bit tedious sometimes, and I thought the overall pace was very slow.
  14 no exams
16 more examples of coding on slides would help
17 The workload was too much for a 100 level course. Also The exams were too detailed for the time allowed
18 THe workload was seriously ridiculous for a 100 level course. At the beginning is wasn't too bad but once we started the two projects we would have a lab which would take well over an hour if you knew exactly what you were doing, more if it was new to you. In addition we had not one but two completely separate sites to design and had to incorporate concepts we learned immediately which was not a problem however in some cases we got behind in the class and were all of a sudden supposed to include things in our site that we hadn't discussed in class.
20 add flash add a lab section
What would you tell another student who asked you to describe this course?
  00 Harder than you expect
01 learn html, css, learn how to make webpages well
10 Very simple overview of how to use html and CSS. Do not take it, because the information presented about html and CSS can be learned with online tutorials in about 3 hours.
11 You will learn a great deal about web design
13 It's a great class, it's one of those that you need to work, but you can also easily get an A
14 good except for the exams
18 Its not the same course it was a few years ago so you might want to think about taking another class.
  20 do it
Was the text useful? Was it understandable? Why or why not?
  00 N/A
  01 n/a
  10 There was no text.
  11 No text
  13 n/a
  14 no text
  16 n/a
  18 no text
20 no, didn't think that there was a text
Were the assigned homework or problem sets helpful and relevant to the course? Why or why not?
  00 yes
01 yes. each lab covered the topics learned in class
10 The project was useful, the labs were not. The project helped with communications with customers and team members which was good. The labs were just really simple and didn't really teach anything if you already had a basic understanding of html and CSS.
  11 yes
13 definitely, the homeworks/labs were how we learned to make web pages. The group projects were nice, also, but it was hard to have enough time to do 2 consecutive projects. It would have been nicer to have smaller groups only working on one project because then they could focus their time and energy on it.
14 yes, learned how to do things first hand
16 yes - tutorials and examples are much easier to learn from and waste a lot less time
18 Yes, made you use what you just learned.
  20 mostly,
Please use this space to comment on any other aspect of the course. (i.e., help sessions, teaching assistants, etc.)
01 TAs did a good job
08 The course is useful and i have learned a lot, but one must be prepared for the many issues and frustrations that come with two group projects for the class.
20 i felt like the test were much much harder then they should have been, the homeworks didn't acurately represent the knowledge needed for test
